What a treat to have the juniors reading stories to the seniors and vice versa. Both groups enjoyed the experience and can't wait to do it again! "Ashley read a funny story and George read a bumblebee book", said Riley. Finn liked having two people reading to him. "It was scary reading to seniors but I did it, said Finn

Telling the time
We are learning to tell the time in Room 1. The children can show half and quarter past as well as o'clock using their own hands. (We have just finished learning about halves and quarters in our fractions unit.) We have such clever clocks in room 1!

Poukawa School athletics day
The lawns are trimmed, the cones are out, along with the rake and measuring tape, the discus and shot put have been polished, the crash pad and hurdles are out and waiting patiently for the children to run, jump, throw and leap as high and as far as they can. Yup it's athletics day! It's all on and we can't wait.
The children were able to show off their impressive skills in front of proud parents, grandparents and whanau members. I was so proud of the children for showing their 'give it a go attitudes'.
Tino pai Poukawa School children, staff, especially Adam and all his hard work and our whanau who came to tautoko the children.

What is it?
After the weekend the dinosaur had broken out of its shell some more. Makayla thinks it might be a triceatops because she can see its frill and a horn on its nose and two other horns on its head. She can also see some ripples on its thick legs.
Poukawa school goes to the aquarium to visit the dinosaur footprints exhibition.
The Wheels on the Poukawa School bus went round and round to the National Aquarium of Aotearoa. On the bus were 31 very excited 5,6 and 7 year olds ready for an adventure with the aquarium palaeontologists. We were greeted by palaentologists Carol and Carly and taken to the special exhibition room where we were split into two groups. Each group was taken to the lab to make their own fossil dinosaur footprints. While this was happening the other group was making dinosaur footprints in the sand and exploring the special features of the dinosaur exhibition. A fantastic tour was had by all and a very big thank you to the very knowledgable palaeontologists at the National Aquarium of Aotearoa.
