Goblins

Goblins can plant and they are very big. They are gross and yuck because they never take showers! Also, they can be quite messy. Goblins noses are long and pointy!

Room 1 Term 4

Room 1 is right into goblins at the start of Term 4.  We have decided that goblins are not really real, but they are really fun.  Some of them are so ugly.  They have big noses and seaweed-like green hair.  Their fingernails are disgusting and they are usually very dirty.  But our ones like gardening and growing vegetables so that's what we are doing - growing vegetables in the classroom and up in the vegetable boxes by the shade house.

Goblins

Goblins are cheeky, Goblins are tiny, Goblins steal my vegetables, Goblins are very naughty, Goblins are cuddly, Goblins are my friends!

The scary goblins

Goblins have grotty fingernails and like to do the gardens. Their noses are sharper than a sharks tooth.
They are disgusting.

Cricket

Yesterday two cricket professionals came out to teach us cricket skills.  We had a game where we had to throw balls at a soccer ball, first the other team won then we won. We got the soccer ball over the line again and won 2 - 1.

The Plants

On Monday room 1 planted some lettuce and some peas. First we had to dig a hole and then we put the seed in the hole. We covered it up and then we watered it.

Yesterday I went to the Unison prize giving  for ripper rugby.  I got an award by the Magpies in recognition of Discipline, work ethic and sportsmanship.

Tuesday 24 September 2013

We went to the bike park on Marine parade.
Charlotte

Yes - we were practising our safe walking across pedestrian crossings and safe biking around the bike park.  On the way we stopped at the Havelock North New World to practise safe walking around a supermarket car park.
We have also practised what we should do in an earthquake; planned a safe meeting place if there is an emergency at home; practised our fire drill at school; practised an emergency stop on the bus; walked safely on a country road; practised crossing a country road; heard about being safe with electricity; watched the Unison linesmen at work up Te Mahanga Road - such a lot to cover in a short time.  Go Room 1!  Great learning!

My dog is a fast eater.  She can shake my hand.  I play with her every day.  She is a chocolate labrador.  My dog's name is Willow.  She has a boyfriend.  His name is Butch.  He is a work dog.  He is cool.

I am learning  about the petals and the  blossoms.  They are white little petals.  The blossoms are pretty. They  twirl on to the ground.

Tuesday 3 September 2013

At Poukawa we have a beautiful plum tree.  It has white petals on it.  The bees are buzzing around us.  When the blossoms fall off the tree, they twirl to the ground.  I love the plum tree.
Hannah
We went outside to see the plum tree.  It has blossoms on it.  I took a close look at the blossoms.  I saw the petals falling like snowflakes.
Makayla
At Poukawa school we had a plum tree.It was blossoming and the blossom petals are falling to the ground.
Kayla
At Poukawa there's a beautiful tree. The strong wind comes.  The petals fall off.  The bees are humming.  The birds are singing.  It feels like home.
Olive
At Poukawa School we have the most beautiful plum blossom.

The beautiful petals are drifting
off the tree.  The tree is losing petals.  One of the
petals fell on my nose.  I  had nectar on my nose.
It tickled my nose.  "Stop it! It's too ticklish" I said to the tree.

At school  we held a cross country and we jumped  over the wire fence and over  a wooden   fence  and  in to the  plantation  and  we  had to go  down a  steep  hill   and under the goalpost to the finish line.
I felt tired and hot at the end.

Monday 2 September 2013

At cross country we faced Pukehou and Argyll East.  I came 4th.  I just had to beat 2 Pukehou kids and one Poukawa kid.  It was awesome as. I jumped the fence, ran round the plantation, round the cone and through the goal posts.   I sprinted as fast as I could across the finish line.

The fog was like a big fluffy blanket.        The  fog   was   like   a   magic   blanket.    The fog was like magic world.

These are Marc's goals for writing. Pink indicates goals he has mastered.

Hannah's lamb came to school yesterday.
The lamb has a cute face.  It had furry legs, as furry as a grizzly bear.  She had bumpy hooves at the end of her long legs and pointy little toes.

I loved it when she wagged her "waggily" tail.

Spring has sprung in the Junior Room
Hannah's lamb came to visit and left us some small "raisins".
Well at least it wasn't the puddle it left in Room 2!
We loved touching it, and we watched Trudi feed it.
It wagged its tail while it was drinking.
Thanks for bringing your lamb, Hannah.

Then we all made lambs with lots of real wool and a bucketload of PVA glue.

Wednesday 14 August 2013

Room 1 has been very busy of late trying to blow the biggest bubbles we can.

If you have a bubble blower at home, try this mix.  We reckon it's the best.
8 cups of hot water
2 cups of detergent
2 tablespoons of baking powder (not baking soda)
2 tablespoons of glycerine (available at the chemist)

 Matariki Magic at Poukawa School
An awesome night at our school celebrating the Maori New Year.

Dad, Ayden and I went to the Matariki Magic night at our school.
When we were driving home,
we saw a big gleaming bright moon.

Kayla
Pop! Pop! Pop!  Room 1 made popcorn the other day.  This is what Montana and Olive wrote about it.

Pop! Pop! Pop!  goes the popcorn.
You put it in the microwave to make it cook.
put it on for 5 minutes.  It smelt all buttery.
It looks like a big bunch of snowflakes.
Mmmmm popcorn!
                        Montana

I had some popcorn.
It tasted like butter.
I liked it.  It looked like curly hair.
My taste buds were tingling.

Gymnastics

We are all entering the Novice Gym Festival which will be held at our school on Monday 17 June starting at 1.30pm.  It's only our school who is taking part in this festival this year.  Otane and Pukehou, who normally join us, are unable to take part.

So, we have been practising our rolling, our hanging and swinging, our jumping, and our vaulting every day now for some time.
This is what we look like.

Clowns have been the order of the day for the last little while on Thursdays and Fridays.

On Friday out came the shaving cream, up went the target and the children had a ball throwing their "cream" at the target.

This is my story map about my treasure box with my story written underneath.

My red treasure box is sparkly  with golden people on it.  It sparkles into my eyes but when I tried to open  it, it was locked!!!  Then I looked behind the treasure box and I found the key. I could open the treasure box and inside it, it had caveman rocks.  I liked the rocks.
Luke CF

Today we were writing descriptive stories about our wonderful treasure boxes that people brought to
school.

I  have three treasure boxes. One has stars on it.  One of my treasure boxes has     on it. One box has baby on it and I love my box.
Kaitlyn

My treasure box is filled with treasure.  It's pink and purple and red.
